Summer Holidays are welcomed by kids, not so much by parents, who have to organise some form of entertainment for their bundles of joy. This can prove time consuming and expensive.
The Institute of Wellbeing recently finished a 3 week pilot scheme, in conjunction with CWest extended Schools. The 3 weeks proved to be fun and entertaining for the children who were involved and thoroughly engaged themselves in activities such as dancing, singing, performing arts, photography and music. It was the first in its kind for the Institute, whose approach is to influence and support children to follow their dreams so that through hard work and perseverance they can achieve anything they desire.
The activities that were on offer kept the children determined and content so that they could achieve the dance moves even though they seemed tricky at first, that they could sing even though they might not have thought so at the start and that, if they forgot their lines, it didn’t matter, because when it came to the performance in front of their parents, they successfully remembered their lines.
Additionally, the children were set small tasks and asked to consider what they loved about themselves, what they consider respect in their eyes and were asked to fill out a personal crest outlining their achievements so far, ambitions and greatest loves. This proved hard for some; after all it’s not easy to write about yourself and what you like about yourself! Through a little help with the IOW team they were already creating some positive pictures of themselves and what they would like to achieve in years to come.
There were fantastic motivational speakers who were able to gain the children’s full attention with their words of expertise by talking about being healthy and keeping fit and by being true to themselves and being the best they can be through a little hard work and willpower.
The days were also filled with pizza making with a competition of who could decorate the best pizza, smoothie making, using fresh fruits full of vitamins and chocolate rice crispy cakes which was welcomed as we all needed a bit of chocolate to keep our energy levels high!
It was clear that the parents also enjoyed themselves, and in particular with what the life coach at the IOW had to offer. It made some of them question their achievements in life if any, or what they are striving for and how just a little coaching can help them achieve this by believing in yourself.
We all get swept away and consumed by life’s uncertainties that we forget about ourselves and what we want. The Institute of Wellbeing promotes well-being through a variety of programmes such as counselling, coaching and other activities for children tailored to their needs to keep a fair balance in your life.
Why not consider enhancing your life and your children’s through the support offered by the IOW.
Hopefully the kids on the Summer Scheme will go back to school more confident, optimistic and ready to take on school and family life in a positive manner.
