Living out my Dream - by Rudie

Rudie is a 17 year old girl, who like most teenagers aspires to pursue a singing career and follow in the footsteps of her idols Rianna, Beyonce and Mariah. However, having such a huge dream is not easy. She has the voice and the cute looks, but most importantly has the determination and support from family and friends to help her on her long journey to becoming the next Leona Lewis.

Rudie told me that she has always loved singing and when she was at college, most of her free time spent using the studio facilities with her friends. “We would write lyrics, put a beat to it and start recording. I learnt how to use the software and learnt how to properly sing in a studio.” She explains.

Already their upbeat vibes were forming a small fan base around the college as they performed on the student radio and were asked to perform at the end of the year concert.

Unfortunately, when Rudie left college, the singing and recording all came to a halt. It was during this time that things seemed difficult as colleges specialising in music proved to be too expensive and even looking for studios to practice seemed hard to find. “Luckily the organisation Conexions eventually gave me the advice that I needed and pointed me towards the right career path. I also found out that they had a recording studio which was open to teenagers. Having that support really helped me.” She further explains.

Things have proved to get better, as recently, through her network of friends, came across three young wannabe music producers who have just set up premises and have self funded their own studio. After coming across Rudie and hearing her voice, they asked her to be their first artist and to record an album.

Another aim for the teen, as well as collaborating with the producers is to appear on X Factor. I asked what advice she would give to teenagers like herself. “I know it sounds cheesy, but if you want something bad enough, you’ll keep trying until you get there.” She seems focused and positive in her outlook, so look out for Rudie McCree as she may be the next RnB sensation to hit the airwaves.
