Interracial Relationships was first established in America when the first English Settlers gained colonies in the seventeenth century. Maryland banned interracial marriage in 1664 because of questions over whether the offspring of a black slave and a white person would be considered a free person or property.

Nowadays society is seeing a gradual breakdown of long standing obstacles and negative thinking opposed towards interracial relationships and marriages. Therefore, the debate over interracial relationships is controversial because it touches on the sensitive areas of family, cultural heritage, religion and racism.

Family or friends of those of interracial dating argue that those who date or marry outside of their race are betraying their families and abandoning their cultural heritage.

The rise in interracial births, combined with increased immigration, will make white people a minority by the middle of the twenty-first century. On the other hand, people of interracial relationship believe that interracial romance is a step toward eliminating racial hatred.

Interracial Relationships display natural results of how the world is made up of various different ethnic groups. It combines new ideas and customs of two people in love and from two very different backgrounds into one. The world should look at two people in a relationship as being in love regardless of their race.
