Teenagers and Sleep

A grumpy teenager is not a nice teenager and there is no use blaming teenager ‘hormones’ or ‘adolescence’ as an excuse for such grouchiness.  In fact not getting the right amount of sleep (nine hours) could be the issue.

It seems pupils in Glasgow have been given lesson on how to sleep.  I’ve always found it easy to sleep I just get into bed, put my head on the pillow and usually dose off, but it seems distractions such as watching TV, playing game consoles or browsing the internet are to blame.  This leaves teenagers with four to five hours sleep a night.

Sleep in important for all individuals.  We cannot function properly throughout the day and we can lose concentration.  Teenagers need sleep to boost their academic abilities and energy for sport activities.  A spokesman for Glasgow City Council said;

“We are committed to providing guidance to young people so they can get the right amount of sleep and maximise their learning potential.”

And one teen who had taken sessions said;

“I wasn't sleeping in French, as I usually do," he added, "so my French teacher is pleased anyway.”

Well at least it seems to be having some effect.  Teenagers out there help your teachers and allow them to let them do their job by actively listening and keeping alert.

Cut down the time you spend on the TV and internet and go and get some sleep!
